The Vietnamese Association of Nova Scotia (VietNS) welcomes 
you to our official website. The 2006-2007 Executive Committee has been formed and we would like to recognize the time and commitment that these dedicated group of volunteers have contributed to the success of events in the community.
Announcements
Dec12/07 - Vietnamese Association of Nova Scotia was awarded a grant of $21,250 to start our Vietnamese Intergenerational Project. We are currently looking for two coordinators to manage the project and also two teachers to teach Vietnamese. For more information regarding the positions or to apply please email us your resume to info@vietns.ca. Please note the deadline for these positions is December 28, 2007.

Nov26/07 - Hội Người Việt NS kính mời tất cả đồng bào đến tham dự buổi họp tường trình hoạt động và tài chánh của Hội trong 2 năm qua. Và sẽ tổ chức bầu cử Ban Chấp Hành nhiệm kỳ 2008-2010. Hội Người Việt cũng kêu gọi tất cả mọi người có khả năng sinh hoạt cộng đồng hảy ra ứng cử để đóng góp cho Cộng Đồng tại Tỉnh nhà được mạnh mẽ hơn.

Nov21/07 - Bửa cơm thân mật “Tới Bờ Tự Do” đêm 11-11-2007 tại nhà hàng Dragon King Buffet với số lượng đồng bào tham dự đông đủ, kết quả tài chính đã thu được cùng với sự ủng hộ là $6080, trừ một vài khoảng chi phí và trả tiền nhà hàng, số tiền còn lại là $3484. Hội sẽ gởi số tiền này về Liên Hội Người Việt Canada để sử dụng trong việc trang trải các chi phí định cư cho 161 người Việt tại Phi Luật Tân.
Hội Người Việt NS xin chân thành cảm ơn tất cả đồng bào đến tham dự bửa cơm “Tới Bờ Tự Do “ và số đồng bào không tham dự đã ủng hộ và đóng góp tiền bạc đã nói lên mối quan tâm và tình thương bao la, mà đồng bào hải ngoại đã dành cho những đồng bào kém may mắn đang mòn mỏi chờ mong được đặt chân đến bờ tự dọ.
Nov17/07 - Hội Người Việt Nova Scotia nhận được tin buồn thân mẫu của Anh Trần Công Nương (Cố vấn Hội) là Bà cụ Nguyễn Thị Thê đã qua đời ngày 16 tháng 11 năm 2007 tại Huế, Việt Nam hưởng thọ 98 tuổi. Chúng tôi xin chân thành phân ưu cùng anh và tang quyến. Nguyện cầu hươmg hồn cụ Bà sớm được về cõi vĩnh hằng. -
Our sincerest condolences to Mr. Trần Công Nương (Association Senior Advisor) and his family on the death of his mother, Ms. Nguyễn Thị Thê, who passed away at the age of 98 on November 16, 2007 in Huế, Việt Nam.
Oct31/07 - Hội Người Việt Nova Scotia sẽ tổ chức một buổi cơm gây quỹ “TỚI BỜ TỰ DO” để giúp đỡ cho 161 thuyền nhân Việt Nam còn sót lại tại Phi Luật Tân sau 20 năm sống trong tình cảnh “vô tổ quốc” được đi định cư tại Canada. Xin quý đồng hương mở lòng từ bi để giúp cho những người kém may mắn nàỵ Mọi chi tiết xin xem poster.
Oct21/07 - Ngày 14 tháng 10 năm 2007 Hội Người Việt NS 
đã tổ chức một buổi cơm thân mật để đón tiếp bé Phạm Hồng Sơn cùng người bão mẫu từ VN qua Toronto để chữa bệnh cục bướu trên mặt được hội bão trợ Children Bridge Foundation do Bà Olwyn Walter và Anh Ngô Nhựt Tân đến Halifax. Với sự đóng góp nồng nhiệt của các anh chị em trong cộng đồng, hội đã thâu được $1485 để giúp đỡ bé Sơn và đã trao số tiền này cho bà Olwyn Walter, Phó Chủ Tịch của hội Children Bridge Foundation. BCH Hội Người Việt xin chân thành cảm ơn lòng tốt của các anh chị em đã sẳn sàng tiếp tay trong việc thiện nguyện nàỵ.
Oct17/07 - Hội Người Việt Nova Scotia nhận được tin buồn thân mẫu của chị Hà Yên, Bà Maria Hoàng Thị Bính hưởng thọ 82 tuổi đã vĩnh viễn ra đi về nước Chúa ngày 16/10/07 tại Việt Nam. Xin thành kính phân ưu cùng chị và gia quyến, Nguyện Thiên Chúa toàn năng nhân lành đón rưóc Bà vào thiên đàng nước Chúa. -

- This year's Mid-Autumn Moon Festival was a huge success, thanks to all the volunteers and everybody who came out to help us celebrate. The lantern-decorating workshop was a big hit for the kids, young and old alike, while the fashion show and talent performances were awe-inspiring. Please check back to the Gallery for photos of the event. Also, the fall issue of our Newsletter was handed out during the Festival. - This year's
Mid-Autumn Moon Festival will kick off with a lantern-decorating for the kids on
Sunday September 23rd at 4:30pm at St. Andrew's Community Centre on Bayer's Road, Halifax. This will be followed by a potluck supper, entertainment by the children, and ending with a lantern procession. Come and celebrate with family and friends.
Aug30/07 - As the Youth Coordinators and Workers return to school from a very successful summer season, they have provided a public thank you letter to the community.
Aug22/07 - The Vietnamese Association is having an end of summer get together at Oakfield Park on August 26, 2007. This is an informal event therefore families can bring their own food for themselves. The Vietnamese Association will be providing drinks.

- The Vietnamese Youth Group will be presenting the 1st Vietnamese Youth Achievement Award; given to a youth who have shown dedication, leadership abilities, and hard work, by helping the Vietnamese Youth Group with events and fundraisers. The Youth Achievement Award will be presented at the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival.

- The Vietnamese Youth Group had a success with the Summer of Memories event! Yesterday's event brought out nearly 21 people, and the event lasted for more than 8 hours. Everyone had lots of fun and many made new friends and lasting memories. Just uploaded is 150 photos of the event!

- The Vietnamese Youth Group did extremely well on August 3's Car Wash Fundraiser. There was roughly 20 people who attended and helped out! A big thank you for all volunteers who helped out this summer!

- Congratulations to Emily Nguyen on receiving the Boyne-Clarke Multicultural Scholarship in June! With a few days close to the deadline, Emily and the YG Coordinators were able to get all the necessary forms filled and sent! This scholarship was for $1,000 towards university! View Photo.
Jul12/07 - We are pleased to announce the hiring of Quyen Ho and Kayla Do as our Vietnamese Youth Workers. They will be assisting the Vietnamese Youth Coordinators in the planning of events and activities this summer. Jun18/07 - We would like to thank all the volunteers that came out to help us prepare the pork-kabobs and with the MultiFest this year. Even though the weather wasn't so great, we still did pretty well. Thank goodness for the mango shakes! We'll be posting pictures up soon, so make sure to check back.

Apr19/07 - If you have been experiencing problems with our VietNS website it is because we were in the process of moving it to a new host. The move is now completed, let us know if there is any problem. We would like to thank Dennis d'Entremont for hosting our site for free the past couple of years.

- We are in the process of applying for government funding for fulltime summer student workers. If you are wondering what to do this summer that can make a difference, consider becoming a Vietnamese Youth Coordinator (university student) or a Vietnamese Youth Worker (high school student). This is a great opportunity to use your skills and talents to help build up our community involvement and earn some cash for the fall as well! Contact us now for more information.

Jan25/07 - We extend an invitation to all to join us in celebrating the Lunar New Year on February 18th. Starting with a potluck supper, live music and cultural performances, a dragon dance, and ending with an open floor dance, this will be a special time to be with family and friends.
